Elche

Elche will look to get back to winning ways when they host Atletico Madrid this Wednesday.

The hosts were beaten 3-0 by Cadiz in their last game, ending a three-game unbeaten run (W2, D1) and leaving them mathematically still in the relegation battle with three games left to play.

After their loss to Cadiz last time out, head coach Francisco assured fans he will not rest until Elche’s league status is confirmed. And so, even though their current tally of 39 points would have been enough to survive the prior nine campaigns, they will look to win this game to confirm that no matter the permutations at the end of the season, they remain in the league.

Possible Elche starting line-up

Edgar Badia;Helibelton Palacios, Enzo Roco, Pedro Bigas, Johan Mojica; Gerard Gumbau, Omar Mascarell, Raul Guti; Pere Milla, Guido Carrillo, Kike Pere.

Injured: None

Doubtful: Lucas Boye, Gonzalo Verdu

Suspended: Ezequiel Ponce

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid will look to make it two wins in two league games for the first time since late March when they face Elche in midweek.

The visitors brought their quest for a tenth consecutive UEFA Champions League appearance back on track after a crucial 1-0 home derby win over Real Madrid last time out.

The win was their first H2H win in nine attempts across all competitions. They will now hope to win this game and extend their winning streak over ‘Los Franjiverdes’ in La Liga football to eight games (aggregate score 14-1).

Given that they are just six points ahead of Real Betis in fifth position, Atletico manager Diego Simeone has publicly cautioned that “nothing is guaranteed” in terms of a top-four finish. But with just three games to play, a win in this game will all but seal Atletico’s place in the UCL next season.

Possible Atletico Madrid starting line-up

Jan Oblak; Sime Vrsaljko, Jose Gimenez, Stefan Savic, Renan Lodi; Koke, Rodrigo De Paul, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Yannick Carrasco; Matheus Cunha, Angel Correa.

Injured: Reinildo Mandava, Thomas Lemar

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Marcos Llorente
