Lyon held to a 1-1 draw by ten-men Marseille

Houssem Aouar-Lyon

Lyon were held to a 1-1 draw against Marseille in the French League earlier today.

Dimitri Payet gave the away side a well-deserved lead on the 16th minute and he was sent off three minutes later.

Lyon got back into the game on the 28th minute when Houssem Aouar scored from the penalty spot.

The home side had quite a few chances after that to win the game but Marseille managed to hold on with ten men to grind out a draw in the end.

The draw leaves Lyon in the 14th place with just one win from 6 League games.

It will be interesting to see if they can bounce back strongly in their next game and put together a winning run.

As for Marseille, they are 10th in the table having lost just once from their six outings. However, they have drawn quite a few matches and they will have to convert those into wins if they want to secure a respectable finish in the table this season.

It will be interesting to see how the transfer deadline day unfolds tomorrow and Lyon could still lose some key players.

The likes of Memphis Depay and Houssem Aouar have been linked with moves away from the club and the French outfit will be hoping to hold onto their best players.

Lyon had an impressive season last year and they will be thoroughly disappointed with their performances so far. The players and the manager will be under immense pressure to turn it around in the coming weeks.
