Montpellier

Montpellier will look to make it three wins in three league games when they host Lille on Sunday.

After a 3-2 win in their first game of the season, the hosts lost two of their subsequent games, conceding seven times against Paris Saint-Germain and Auxerre.

But they bounced back impressively by beating Brest 7-0 in Game Week four, before following that win up with a 2-0 win over AC Ajaccio last time out.

The win took their points tally for the season to nine points. That means that they now stand one point better off than they were after five league games in 2018/19 – the only season so far to give Montpellier a top-six finish after they were crowned champions a decade ago.

They will now hope to make it three wins in three league games and three consecutive clean sheets in Ligue 1 shutouts since Oct/Nov 2018. However, the suspension of goalkeeper Jonas Omlin after a midweek red card will likely be a complicating factor.

But given that their opponents, Lille, have the worst defence of all teams that ended Wednesday inside the top half, the hosts will fancy their chances of getting a win in this game.

Possible Montpellier starting line-up

Matis Carvalho; Falaye Sacko, Maxime Esteve, Nicolas Cozza, Faitout Maouassa; Jordan Ferri, Leo Leroy; Elye Wahi, Joris Chotard, Arnaud Nordin; Valère Germain.

Injured: Sacha Delaye, Stephy Mavididi, Pedro Mendes, Dimitry Bertaud, Wahbi Khazri, Christopher Jullien, Theo Sainte-Luce

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Jonas Omlin, Teji Savanier

Lille

Lille’s poor start to the Ligue 1 season continued with a 2-1 loss to Nice in their last game.

The visitors who began their league campaign with an impressive 4-1 win over Auxerre have so far dropped points in three of their opening five games, leaving them sitting in eighth place after five rounds of games.

For a team that just two seasons ago won the title under Christophe Galtier, a tenth-place finish last season represented a fall from grace to grass. They are still aiming to restore some wounded pride and will hope that after their midweek capitulation against Nice where they conceded two penalties, they will be able to get a win in this game.

But without a clean sheet in nine games, their defending has to improve if they want to extend their winning run against Montpellier away from home to four games.

Possible Lille starting line-up

Léo Jardim; Bafode Diakite, Jose Fonte,Taigo Djalo, Ismaily; Benjamin André, Angel Gomes; Jonathan Bamba, Yusuf Yazici, Edon Zhegrova, Jonathan David.

Injured: Timothy Weah, Remy Cabella

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
