Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette (13″), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (64″)

Burnley: Ashley Barnes (43″)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette fire for Gunners in either half of the match to register a hard-fought win against Burley at the Emirates Stadium.

Goals

Alexandre Lacazette’s early opener was cancelled out by Ashley Barnes in the 43rd minute as Burnley’s direct approach caused Arsenal problems. But Aubameyang struck a fine goal from outside the box in the 64th minute to secure victory for the Gunners.

First Half

The hosts, Arsenal saw debut of  £8m defender David Luiz and Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos.  The game saw efforts from  Reiss Nelson ended up the roof of the net. But Arsenal was denied in that occasion.

Burnley was unchanged from a 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend.  They looked dangerous whenever they had the chance to get a set-piece into the box. Bernd Leno made a brilliant save a point-blank save from Barnes. Ultimately Matteo Guendouzi had to come for rescue and hooked the ball off the line following a goalmouth scramble. But Barnes was flagged offside on that occasion.

Second Half

Unai Emery introduced club-record signing Nicolas Pepe in the second half as Nelson made way for the Ivorian winger.

Another victory in their first home match was made all the more enjoyable for the home support by the enthralling performance of midfielder Ceballos, on loan from the Bernabeu for the 2019-20 campaign. The Spaniard, unable to impress in his substitute appearance at Newcastle, oozed class in the centre of the pitch and delivered dancing runs through the Burnley midfield with sharp feet and twisting dribbles.

Ozil was not well this week, so he missed out on being involved here. Kolasinac came on in a more attacking role, playing on the left wing for the final 19 minutes. Fellow substitute Lucas Torreira came close to a third Arsenal goal late on, with Burnley failing to test Leno in the closing stages as they slipped to a 10th successive league defeat to the Gunners.
