Brazilian defender David Luiz could miss arsenal’s season opener later this month and it will be interesting to see how Mikel Arteta replaces him in the starting lineup.

Luiz has picked up a neck injury and the true extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

The Gunners recently signed Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille And William Saliba has returned to the club from his loan spell as well.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal decide to field both players as their starting centre backs in their season opener.

There is no doubt that Gabriel and Saliba are talented young players but they might need some time to adapt to English football. Putting them into the starting lineup right away could lead to the players struggling and then losing confidence.

Arsenal have Rob Holding and Sokratis available for the season opener as well and those two might be more suitable starting options for Arteta right now.

Gabriel at Saliba are eventually expected to be the first choice centre back pairing at Arsenal. However, the manager needs to be patient with them and let them settle in before expecting too much of them.

Holding and Sokratis have been at the club for a while now and they should fill in for Luiz now.

Holding was quite impressive for Arsenal in the Community Shield game against Liverpool and he has earned a starting berth for another game.

It will be interesting to see who Arteta decides go with eventually.
