Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea celebrates after scoring the first goal in Premier League match at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea picked up a comprehensive 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

Following their hard-fought draw against Liverpool before the international break, the Blues returned to winning ways after steamrolling Dean Smith’s side.

Romelu Lukaku was the star of the show as he netted an impressive double on his first appearance at Stamford Bridge this season.

Matteo Kovacic was also on the scoresheet as the midfielder was impressive against the hapless Villans side. Saul also made his debut for the Blues today, featuring in the starting 11.

Here are the three talking points from Chelsea’s emphatic win.

Big Rom strikes again

Lukaku has made a thunderous start to his second spell at Chelsea, scoring 3 goals in 3 appearances. The Blues’ record signing was the one to break the deadlock – the goal also marked his first at Stamford Bridge this season – before scoring the winner in stoppage time. The Belgian striker’s addition is turning out to be a masterstroke from the Londoners as he looks on a mission to redeem himself for his troubled past in the Premier League.

Edouard Mendy had an excellent night

Although the Blues dominated the game for long spells, there were moments when Villa came close to scoring. However, Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy had a busy day in the office, producing some fine saves to keep Villans at bay. The Blues No.1 made a double save towards the end of the first half, denying Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings. The win also marked Mendy’s third clean sheet of the Premier League this season.

Tuchel has an impeccable squad to win the Premier League

The current Chelsea squad led by Thomas Tuchel has all the qualities to have a shot at the Premier League title this season. The squad depth also looks impressive as Tuchel can always look for options from attack to defence. Furthermore, they have started the new season strongly by producing some clinical performances. The German manager led the Londoners to the Champions League glory earlier this year. He has all the intentions to make a similar impact in the Premier League this season.
