The ex-Netherlands defender feels that Ronaldo is affecting United’s overall style of play.

Former Netherlands defender Danny Blind has accused Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United’s struggles this season.

United’s form has been topsy-turvy this season and their latest draw against Everton meant that they have managed only one win out of their last four games across all competitions.

Although Ronaldo looks in imperious form, Blind says that the Portuguese forward lacks the mobility to help other players thrive.

The former Ajax defender said after United’s win over Villarreal (h/t 90 min): “Ronaldo doesn’t really need to play an active role. Like ‘take your time’. You also see the other players looking at you like, ‘how are we going to solve it then?’ Normally, the striker runs from one central defender to the other. This caused a lot of miscommunication.

“Now, they are not playing in their familiar pattern. When the ball was deflected [against Villarreal], you saw Paul Pogba coaching that they had to put all the pressure on. Ronaldo did not do that; he is not like that. He only thinks about goals and hopes others will conquer the ball.”

It is not the first time Ronaldo has been slammed for his style of play as he had previously met with similar criticism during his time at Juventus.

The 36-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Juve in the final week of the summer transfer window.

His impact has been evident from the start as he has racked up 3 goals in 4 Premier League appearances. Furthermore, Ronaldo was on target in both of the Champions League games against Young Boys and Villarreal.
