Former Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov has made a bold claim that Edinson Cavani isn’t too keen on Cristiano Ronaldo‘s return to Old Trafford, according to the Mirror. The former Bulgarian international believes that Cavani has been suffering gravely ever since United decided to take a punt on Ronaldo for the second time.

The Uruguayan striker has seen a substantial reduction in his playing time, with Ronaldo getting the majority of the minutes as United’s designated frontman. Having given up his No.7 jersey to accommodate the Portuguese, Cavani now finds himself restricted to the bench as the Portuguese continues with his incredible playing record as well as work rate.

Assessing the current forward situation at Old Trafford, Berbatov came to the conclusion that Cavani “isn’t happy” with Ronaldo’s arrival. Speaking to Tuttosport, the 40-year-old assistant coach at Etar stated,

“Cavani isn’t happy. He had a great first season at United, but he’s lost his place in the hierarchy as well as his No.7. I hope Solskjaer has had an honest conversation with him.”

Going a step further, Berbatov even claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing is just a publicity stunt by the United officials to get into fans’ good books. According to the Bulgarian, this transfer will have more repercussions than advantages in the longer run.

Cavani has played just 37 minutes in the Premier League this season. However, this fact has more to do with his ongoing fitness issues than Ole Gunnar Solskjær updated preference. Manchester United inexplicably lost to Young Boys in their last outing, despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener in the fixture.
