Former Manchester City captain Fernandinho seals transfer to Athletico Paranaense

Etihad Manchester City

The Brazilian legendary will return to his home country after Athletico Paranense have completed the signing of the midfielder. It has been a great journey for the former City captain.

He had a career of over a decade in Europe, before Fernandinho left Manchester City this summer.

In 2013, Fernandinho joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk. Since then, he made a total of 338 appearances for City. The former captain Fernandinho had the best season at City, leaving with the high honour of winning another Premier League title, an FA Cup, and six League Cups while earning PFA Team of the Year honours in 2018-19. According to Goal, he will be reunited with Athletico after originally representing the club from 2002-05.

“We had numerous proposals, from several different clubs, from Brazil and abroad,” the midfielder said at his unveiling. “But the most sensible decision was to return home and try to give my best here at Athletico now.”

Athletico Paranense will possibly have a promising next season. With Fernandinho on their side, hurricanes are much stronger than before.
