Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has requested that his contract with the Gunners be terminated this summer so he can find another club this summer.

The Spaniard who earns £110,00 a week at the Emirates has just one year left on his contract and has requested that the contract be discontinued so that he can leave on a free transfer.

Bellerin has dropped way down the pecking order at Arsenal with competition for the right back-back berth currently between Ben White, Rob Holding and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

He spent last season on loan with La Liga outfit Real Betis, making 32 appearances in all competitions as Los Verdiblancos won the Copa del Rey for just the third time in their history.

Since coming back from his loan spell in Spain, the 27-year-old fullback has remained frozen out by Mikel Arteta, who prefers White and Tomiyasu to the Spain international.

According to reports by Sportsmail, Bellerin wants to move back to Betis on a permanent deal. However, the transfer hinges on whether Arsenal will allow him to leave without a fee.

Real Betis are currently undergoing significant financial challenges which has hindered them in the current transfer window. The Spanish club were only able to register their new signings once Marc Bartra had joined Trabzonspor.

However, Los Verdiblancos are not the only La Liga club interested in signing Bellerin. His former club Barcelona are also reportedly interested in signing the 27-year-old after they failed to secure a deal for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta earlier in the summer.

Bellerin began his footballing career at the Catalan club, before joining Arsenal in 2011. Given Barca’s current financial woes, a move to Camp Nou would hinge on whether Barca’s ongoing financial difficulties are resolved before the end of the transfer window.

Bellerin is currently Arsenal’s longest-serving player. He has made over 180 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, winning three FA Cups in his time at the club.
