Marcelo Bielsa’s side have reached an agreement for the signing of a Barcelona defender.

Leeds United have reportedly reached an agreement worth 15m euros to sign Barcelona defender Junior Firpo.

The Spanish defender will mark Whites’ first summer signing, and the presentation is said to be planned before the start of preseason.

Firpo sealed the transfer to the Nou Camp in the summer of 2019 after impressing at Real Betis. However, the Spaniard failed to exceed his expectations after running out of regular time.

Furthermore, the presence of Jordi Alba as Barcelona‘s primary left-back hindered the opportunities for Firpo. With Ronald Koeman set to continue as the manager of the Catalans, Firpo’s chances for a place in the starting 11 looks bleak.

The 24-year-old is one of the players on the chopping block as Barca are desperate to generate funds to cope up with their financial struggles.

Firpo had been chased by AC Milan, Inter and West Ham, but he has decided to move to Elland Road, with manager Marcelo Bielsa personally requesting the club for the Spaniard’s transfer.

The ex-Real Betis star can play at multiple positions like wingback, left-back, winger and defender, which would be a huge boost for the Premier League outfit.

Firpo must have gone weary over the lack of game time over the last two seasons and will be looking for green pastures. Elland Road would be an excellent destination for the Spaniard to restore his confidence.
