Man City target Juventus star

Manchester City have identified Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt as one of the top targets.

According to Mirror, Citizens want to rival fellow Premier League club Chelsea for the Dutchman’s signing, who could be on the market next summer.

The 21-year-old joined the Old Lady in 2019 for a sumptuous fee but has struggled to keep up the consistency he enjoyed at Ajax due to injuries.

Although Bianconeri see him as an integral part of the future, Super agent Mino Raiola, who represents De Ligt, had earlier claimed that there is a clause in the young defender’s contract, which could be activated next summer.

Man City have to splurge around 150m euros for De Ligt’s signing but they aren’t afraid of doing it, having broken the banks for Jack Grealish in the summer.

City have a formidable defence at the moment with the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte. However, Laporte has been linked with an exit from Etihad.

Cancelo was offered to rivals Man Utd

Joao Cancelo is arguably one of the best full-backs in the world at the moment, thanks to Pep Guardiola for redefining the Portuguese star’s role.

However, he was not as consistent in his previous spells as he is now at Man City. Cancelo played for clubs like Juventus and Valencia.

Sky Sports pundit and former English footballer, Gary Neville, says that he had offered Cancelo to Manchester United when he was the manager of Valencia.

Neville said: “I made calls back to England and you can imagine to which club at the time… saying if you’re ever going to take a player, that’s a young player you take.”
