Manchester City have firmly established themselves as the giant of English football over the last decade. It seems that they are outperforming their bitter rivals Manchester United on and off the pitch now.

According to a report from the Athletic, Manchester City have taken giant strides commercially. Their total income for the twenty 2020-21 financial year was revealed to be £569.8 million, overshadowing that of Manchester United’s total revenue of £494 million.

The Red Devils were trendsetters in terms of commercial growth not so long ago, but they have started to fall behind their rivals at a rapid pace.

Manchester City have not only overtaken Manchester United in terms of finances, but they are also currently the highest revenue-generating club in Europe and the world.

The Premier League champions have higher revenues than Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Pep Guardiola’s side have comfortably leapfrogged Manchester United on the pitch as well, having won four league titles since the last time Manchester United were crowned champions of England.

The Premier League giants are currently 10 points clear at the top of the league table, and they are expected to win the title once again this year.

Manchester United have been well and truly knocked off their perch by their cross-town rivals. It will be interesting to see whether the likes of Ralf Rangnick can lead a revival for the Red Devils over the next few seasons and help them re-establish themselves as the top dogs of England once again.
