Manchester United crashed to a 4-1 defeat in the Premier League against Watford yesterday and the Red Devils are prepared to sack manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer and appoint Zinedine Zidane as his replacement period

The Frenchman is currently without a job after leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season and the 49-year-old is thought to be a top candidate to replace the Norwegian.

According to the Times, Manchester United are now doing everything in their power to appoint him as their new manager and they have recently submitted an increased financial proposal to Zidane in order to convince him to take up the Old Trafford role.

The club hierarchy held an emergency meeting during the second half of the game yesterday to decide on the future of Solskjaer. They will have to pay a severance fee of £7.5 million if they sack the Norwegian.

Zidane has proven his quality as a manager with Real Madrid in the past and he has guided them to multiple Champions League titles and league titles.

There is no doubt that the former World Cup winner is a proven winner and he has the pedigree to transform a club like Manchester United and help them win trophies once again.

Manchester United are one of the best clubs in the world and they will be expected to challenge for the title after a massive summer outlay. However, Solskjaer has struggled to get the best out of his new signings and the Red Devils are now in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification if they continue to perform like this.

Finishing in the top four is essential for a club of their stature and it will be interesting to see if Zidane agrees to take over at Old Trafford and he manages to transform their form in the remaining months of the season.

The Frenchman has worked with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in the past and the two players are likely to be happy if the done takes over.

The former Real Madrid manager could get the best out of Ronaldo and Varane during the second half of the season and he could improve young players like Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford as well.
