Manchester United to offer Donny van de Beek in a player-plus-cash deal for Ismael Bennacer

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to offer Donny van de Beek as part of a swap deal to sign AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer.

According to reports in Italy, the Red Devils want 24-year-old Bennacer, who has reportedly informed his club that he would like to leave this summer.

The Old Trafford side is said to be interested in acquiring Bennacer’s services if they fail to land Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong this summer. They could use van de Beek in a swap deal because they are reluctant to pay full price for Bennacer.

This is according to Calciomercato via Sportsmail, who reports that AC Milan values the Algerian at £38 million; a figure too high for United at this time given their summer transfer budget.

They hope the offer of Van de Beek will cover the majority of the costs for Bennacer, but they are happy to include a small fee to secure the deal.

Van de Beek was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer two seasons ago after a good season in Ajax under the current Man United coach Erik ten Hag. But since moving to Old Trafford, he has struggled to replicate his Ajax form.

The 25-year-old Dutchman spent on loan at Everton after January, 2022. He could easily have left Old Trafford this summer, had Ten Hag not taken over as manager.

He was hoping to secure some more minutes under his former manager at United, but he could now find himself in Italy for the 2022-23 campaign.
