Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is nearing the end of his deal at Old Trafford and he will be a free agent at the end of this season.

According to L’Equipe, the French international is open to signing a new contract with Manchester United but he wants to be the highest-paid player in the Premier League overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo.

Pogba’s extension has been a long and drawn out saga and the two parties have not been able to reach an agreement yet.

Initially, there were murmurs that Pogba would leave the Old Trafford outfit once his contract expires especially with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain keen on signing him.

However, the signings of Raphael Varane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho apparently convinced him that Old Trafford is the right place for him to further his career.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to give in to his financial demands in the coming weeks.

The World Cup winner currently earns around £290,000 a week.  His Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo earns around £480,000 a week.

Pogba has been in excellent form this season but he is currently sidelined with that eye injury for up to 10 weeks.

Manchester United certainly have the financial means to offer him a massive deal and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the next few weeks.

Losing a player of his calibre on a free transfer would be a massive blow for the Old Trafford outfit and they might struggle to replace him. There are few midfielders who are as good as Pogba and they are already well-settled at other elite European clubs.
