Atalanta 2-3 AC Milan: Leao, Tonali to continue their unbeaten start | Serie A 2021-22

Stefano Pioli-AC Milan

AC Milan picked up a thrilling 3-2 win over Atalanta in the Italian Serie A earlier tonight.

Goals from Davide Calabria, Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao wrapped up a vital away win for the Rossoneri.

Atalanta found themselves 3-0 down after 78 minutes but they managed to get back into the game through late goals from Duvan Zapata and Mario Pasalic. However, it was too little too late from the home side and Milan managed to grind out all three points eventually.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Milan are well and truly in the race for the scudetto

Stefano Pioli‘s side have made an exceptional start to their league campaign and they have managed to pick up 19 points from a possible 21 in the Italian league so far. Milan are still unbeaten in the league.

With the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus stuttering, it seems that the Rossoneri could have a genuine shot at the title this season if they can compete with the likes of Napoli.

Stefano Pioli’s Milan are great entertainers

High-intensity end to end football matches are not usually associated with Italian football but the rise of Atalanta in recent seasons changed that notion.

The team from Bergamo are used to playing attractive attacking football and it seems that Stefano Pioli’s Milan have now followed suit.

The Rossoneri have been quite aggressive in their approach this season and they have managed to produce thrilling attacking displays across all competitions so far.

Defensive vulnerabilities

Milan will have to cut out their defensive issues if they want to win some silverware this season.

There is no doubt that they have a quality attacking unit at their disposal but they cannot keep conceding goals every week.

The Rossoneri have conceded at least once in six of their last eight matches across all competitions.
