Conte offers his thoughts on Eriksen’ display, Sanchez injury after Gladbach draw

Conte explains why Inter signed Alexis Sanchez

Antonio Conte heaped praises on Eriksen following his impressive display Inter’s draw against Monchengladbach.

Inter manager Antonio Conte had his high praise for Christian Eriksen following the Champions League draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Nerazzurri were held to 2-2 draw by the Germans, with Romelu Lukaku scoring both the goals – one coming at the stroke of the regular time.

Conte has heaped praises on midfielder Eriksen, who almost played the entire game before subbed off at the 79th minute.

“Like the whole team, Eriksen had a good game. We asked him to be more decisive on the ball, and I think he did well, as did all the lads,” said Conte after the draw.

The 28-year-old played as the attacking midfielder in Inter’s 3-4-1-2 formation and the performance was more convincing than his early performances in Serie A. The Dane also starred in a similar role with the national team in Nations League, which saw him rack up goals against Iceland and England.

Earlier, it was reported that Eriksen had fallen out of favour with Conte following a lacklustre last season, which sparked off his exit rumours.

Conte also gave an update of Alexis Sanchez’s injury as the Chilean was forced off the field at the half time.

“Sanchez needs to be evaluated by the medical staff. Sometimes you need to interpret with Alexis and figure out what’s going on, but we’ll see tomorrow what the situation is.”

Matteo Darmian starred as Inter’s wing-back after Achraf Hakimi tested positive for COVID-19.
