Fiorentina

After a three-game winless run in the league, Fiorentina were back to winning ways over the week, but this time it was the Coppa Italia.

The hosts defeated Napoli 5-2 on Thursday in the Coppa Italia round of eight, thanks to goals from Lorenzo Venuti, Krzysztof Piatek and Youssef Maleh in extra time after both sides had played a 2-2 draw in normal time.

In the league, the ‘Purples’ have not won a game since winning three on the bounce in November and early December. Their last league outing was a shock 4-0 loss against Torino last week. The result was the first time Vincenzo Italiano’s side failed to score in a football game since a 1-0 loss to Juventus in November last year.

They come into this round of games sitting in seventh place, three points behind Lazio who occupy the last European spot. They remain in the hunt for a top-six finish and will be desperate to pick up maximum points on this occasion to boost their chances of achieving their season’s aim.

Possible Fiorentina starting line-ups

Pietro Terracciano; Aleksa Terzic, Igor, Cristiano Biraghi, Alvaro Odriozola; Lucas Torreira, Joseph Alfred Duncan, Giacomo Bonaventura; Riccardo Saponara, Nicolas Gonzalez, Dusan Vlahovic.

Injured: Marco Benassi, Lucas Martinez Quarta

Genoa

Genoa nearly produced a shock result in their last outing as they held AC Mila to a 1-1 draw in normal time in the Coppa Italia. Genoa took the lead in the 17th minute via Leo Ostergard. But Milan equalised late in the game through Olivier Giroud, before Rafael Leao and Alexis Saelemaekers sealed the win for the hosts in extra time.

Andriy Shevchenko’s side are one of the worst-performing sides in the Italian top flight at the moment. They have won just one of their opening 21 games to date and, as a result, are rooted in 19th place, five points behind Venezia in 17th.

Their main issue has been holding onto leads or turning good performances into wins as seen in the fact that no side has drawn more matches in Serie A than they.

With the way they are playing, it is looking extremely difficult for them to remain in the top-flight beyond this season. But with over 40 points still left to be won, they can survive if they begin winning games again.

Possible Genoa starting line-ups

Salvatore Sirigu; Sinan Gumus, Mattia Bani, Zinho Vanheusden; Domenico Criscito, Paolo Ghiglione, Filippo Melegoni, Milan Badelj, Manolo Portanova; Mattia Destro, Felipe Caicedo.

Injured: Nicolo Rovella, Hernani, Yayah Kallon, Valon Behrami
