French international striker Olivier Giroud has joked that he will celebrate on a go-kart circuit with Karim Benzema if his country manages to win the European Championships this summer.
There have been speculations that there is bad blood between the two players because of Benzema’s comments regarding Giroud in the past.
The Real Madrid striker once said that the difference between him and Giroud is similar to the difference between a go-kart and a Formula One vehicle.
It seems that Giroud has shrugged off any ill feelings towards his compatriot, and it could only be a positive for France heading into this summer’s tournament.
“There is no reason to hit it with Karim,” the 34-year-old said.
“The statements he made about me made me smile and laugh more than anything else. I put myself in his shoes. It’s not easy to come back like that. You have to know how to forgive and not hold a grudge,
When asked about a potential celebration together if France win the Euros, Giroud said: “We will both go celebrate on a karting circuit. That will make a great photo!”
Benzema has been recalled back to the national team set up after several years, and it will be interesting to see if he can help his country win a major international tournament.
France are well stocked in the attacking department, and it remains to be seen whether Didier Deschamps decides to give Benzema a starting berth during the Euro 2020.
The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann were excellent for France during the 2018 World Cup, and the arrival of Benzema will only improve them.
The French striker is exceptional at getting the best out of his teammates, and he had a similar impact on the game of Cristiano Ronaldo for Real Madrid.
