Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini has been linked with a move away from the Italian Serie A club in recent months.

The midfielder will be a free agent next summer, and it is no surprise that other European clubs are keeping tabs on his situation.

According to reports, the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are thought to be keen on the goalscoring midfielder. The two Premier League clubs could definitely use a goalscoring midfielder like him.

Roma manager Jose Mourinho has now revealed that Pellegrini wants to sign a new contract with the Italian club soon.

It appears that the Portuguese manager is confident of holding on to the 25-year-old midfielder, who has been in impressive form since his arrival.

The assurance from the player will come as a massive boost to the club and its fans.

Mourinho claimed: “He is a super quality player, with great potential, but you have to ask him if I made him improve. He said that in the next few days, he would sign the contract, and this will give more strength to the relationship with the fans. He is the captain, he will sign the renewal, and this will be very important for us.”

Pellegrini scored a brace during Roma’s midweek UEFA Conference League game against CSKA Sofia. There is no doubt that he will be a key player for Jose Mourinho throughout the season.

Roma must do everything in their power to hold onto their key midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether the two parties can sort out a contractual agreement in the coming weeks.
