Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic is all set to join the Italian club Roma once his contract expires with Manchester United.
The experienced defensive midfielder has a contract with the Premier League club until the end of this month and the 33-year-old has already agreed on a deal to sign for Jose Mourinho‘s side on a free transfer as per Sky Sports.
The 33-year-old has worked with Mourinho in the past and he is keen on a reunion this summer.
The Serie A club could certainly use more depth and quality in the middle of the park and the Serbian should prove to be a quality short term acquisition for them.
Mourinho has managed to guide his side to a European trophy this past season and the Portuguese manager will be hoping to build on it and help them secure Champions League qualification next year.
Meanwhile, Matic has proven himself over the years with Chelsea and Manchester United in the Premier League and it is hardly a surprise that he’s looking to try out a new challenge now.
The 33-year-old is past his peak and his fitness is on the decline as well. A move to Italy would allow him to thrive in a league that is played at a lower intensity compared to the Premier League and the Serbian will certainly benefit from the transfer.
The 33-year-old has the experience and leadership skills to improve Roma on and off the pitch. It remains to be seen whether he can adapt quickly and make an immediate impact now.
