Sampdoria

Sampdoria will look to get their first win of the new campaign when they welcome Maurizio Sarri’s men to Genoa on Wednesday.

The hosts opened their league campaign with a 2-0 loss to Atalanta, followed by a goalless draw with Juventus, before an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Salernitana last time out.

Those results mean they come into this round of games with one point on the board and without a goal in four league games after their scoreless outing against Inter in their last game of the previous season.

But while they sit in the relegation zone after three games, their fans appear unconcerned because of the off-field buzz caused by the imminent arrival of Harry Winks who is joining from Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

However, with coach Marco Giampaolo fuming that his side’s latest defeat to Salernitan “undermines our credibility” he will be desperate to give the club’s passionate supporters something to cheer about on the pitch.

They will fancy their chances of at least getting a goal given that they have failed to score just once across their last seven Serie A home games against Lazio, although losses in five of those contests (W2) indicate their wait for a win may continue.

Possible Sampdoria starting line-up

Lazio

Lazio produced arguably their best defensive performance in a long while when they beat Inter Milan 3-1 last weekend.

The visitors who went into the game as the outsiders having dropped points in a goalless draw with Torino in round two, shocked Inter when Luis Alberto and Pedro scored two late goals to seal all three points for them and take them temporarily top of the Serie A table.

Although they come into this tie not sitting top of the table, they remain close to the top as they are level on points with Napoli who sit atop the Serie A table due to a better goal difference.

With their schedule now set to get tighter in the coming weeks through their participation in the UEFA Europa League, Lazio will be eager for another victory to maintain their momentum,

Having won six of the last seven league meetings with Sampdoria (L1), they will feel confident about getting the desired win. They will expect to see goals in this game too as Lazio were the only team to see at least two goals scored in each of their away league games last campaign.

Possible Lazio starting line-up

Ivan Provedel; Manuel Lazzari, Patric, Alessio Romagnoli, Adam Marusic; Toma Basic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Danilo Cataldi; Felipe Anderson, Ciro Immobile, Mattia Zaccagni.
