Midtjylland 0-4 Atalanta: Miranchuk scores on his debut as Atalanta get off to winning start

Atalanta have beaten the Danish side in their opening game of the Champions League.

Atalanta have kick started their Champions League campaign with a 4-0 win against Midtjylland in Group D clash at MCH Arena.

The Danish club failed to withstand the overwhelming attack of Atalanta, which saw goals from Duvan Zapata, Papu Gomez, Luis Muriel and debutant Aleksey Miranchuk.

Zapata opened the account at the 26th minute with a towering header from Christian Romero’s cross.

The Colombian striker then provided the assist for Atalanta’s second goal, scored by the skipper Papu Gomez. That was some finish from the Argentine from outside the box but Atalanta fans are used to that.

Gomez is off to a spectacular start this season, having already scored 5 goals and two assists so far.

Luis Muriel tripled the lead before the half- time as he latched on to the goalkeeper Hansen’s spilled ball, which was forced by his compatriot Zapata.

The Bergamo outfit put the game beyond doubt after Miranchuk scored the final goal of the night. The Russian midfielder curled in a fantastic effort from his favoured left foot and Hansen had no chance stopping that.

It is another game where the attacking trident of Zapata, Gomez and Muriel have turned productive for the Bergamo club.

Atalanta are coming on the back of a humbling 4-1 defeat against Napoli, which was their first defeat of the season.

However, this win must have restored them enough confidence. Atalanta were knocked out by PSG in the last season’s UCL quarter-final and will now look to push the boundaries this term.

They have been drawn into the same group of Ajax and Liverpool and it remains to be seen whether they can get through the group stage.
