The Ivory Coast striker etched his name in UCL history books after creating a unique record.

Ajax striker Sebastien Haller stole the spotlight after setting a new record during the win against Besiktas in the Champions League.

The Eredivisie champions won their second group stage game of this season 2-0 against Besiktas, with Haller finding the scoresheet alongside Steven Berghuis.

The goal has helped Haller become the first-ever player in UCL history to score five goals in his first two games in the tournament, surpassing Dutch legend Marco Van Basten’s record.

Haller scored four goals in Ajax’s 5 – 1 thrashing of Sporting CP in their Champions League opener.

The 27-year-old moved to West Ham in 2019 after an eye-catching spell at Eintracht Frankfurt. As it turned out, his time in the Premier League was quite a disappointing one after failing to live up to the club record transfer fee.

Haller has rejuvenated his career since moving to Ajax earlier this year. He hit the ground running at Amsterdam Arena, collecting 11 goals and 5 goals in 19 league games. Furthermore, e is off to a great start this season, raking up 5 goals and 2 assists in 7 Eredivisie games.

Ajax have been dominant in the Dutch top flight this season, currently leading the table with 19 points after 7 games.

They are also the favourites to progress to the next round in the Champions League alongside Dortmund in Group C.
