According to reports, two Ballon d'Or awards set to be handed out this year, Robert Lewandowski and Lionel Messi are clear favourites.

The 2020 edition of the Ballon d’Or was cancelled because of the Coronavirus pandemic last year, and France football are set to present both editions of the award later this year.

According to reports, the Ballon d’Or for the 2020 season will also be awarded in December. The Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is a firm favourite to win last year’s accolade.

The award ceremony will take place in Paris on the 5th of December. 

The Polish international was in remarkable form last season, and he managed to score 55 goals across all competitions.

Many felt that the striker was unlucky to have missed out on the Ballon d’Or after a remarkable season due to the pandemic. The fans will now be delighted to see that the Polish striker is set to receive his due later this year.

Meanwhile, Argentine international Lionel Messi remains the favourite to win the award for 2021.

It has been a disappointing season for Messi at club level, but his individual form cannot be questioned.

No other player has performed, and the Barcelona superstar was this past year, and he managed to win a first major trophy with his country earlier this summer.

Argentina managed to beat Brazil in the final of Copa America, and Lionel Messi was the player of the tournament. He was the top scorer in the tournament as well. 

Messi picked up 38 goals and 14 assists across all competitions for Barcelona this past season. He scored five goals and picked up 5 assists for Argentina in that period as well.
