Argentina and Portugal bowed out of FIFA World Cup 2018, which means there would be no Messi or Ronaldo in rest of the 10 matches. Argentina lost to France 3-4, whereas Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 in their respective Round of 16 matches.
Argentina vs France
Argentina was leading 2-1 till 56th minute, before conceding three goals within ten minutes of time. K. Mbappé scored two goals (3rd and 4th) and earned a penalty, which gave France 1-0 lead at 12th minute. Argentina defence fared poorly, as they could not match Mbappé;s speed and France attack. France took a 4-2 lead at 68th minute through Mbappe, which sealed the fate of the match. Paul Pogba took tremendous workload and ensuring supply line for France attack.
Di Maria scored a spectacular goal from a distance, to equalise for Argentina few minute before break. Lionel Messi assisted 2nd and 3rd goal for Argentina. Messi’s shot went into goal after deflecting from G. Mercado at 48th minute, whereas Agüero guided a cross from Messi into Goal at dying moment of the match.
Portugal vs Uruguay
Cavani scored two goals to ensure 2-1 win for Uruguay against Portugal in the second match of Round of 16. Pepe equalised the score at 1-1 through a header at 55th minute of the game, but a superb Cavani ensured Uruguay sailing past Portugal. The Uruguay winner scared his own side when he asked for replacement at 73rd minute, after picking a muscle cramp.
Fans and supporters could not believe the potential winners of the World Cup would make such an early exit. They were not happy,as these two legends ended their world cup 2018 campaign, without scoring a goal in knock-out stage, keeping their earlier world cup records intact.
