Newcastle interested in signing the Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso

Newcastle are interested in signing the Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.

As per reports, he could be their first signing of the summer window.

Newcastle have already held talks with the Chelsea hierarchy and the Blues are prepared to sell the player.

However, the Magpies will have to pay a fee of around £26m.

Newcastle need to sign a quality left back for the net season and Alonso could prove to be a good signing for them.

Danny Rose is Newcastle’s first choice left back right now but he will leave once his loan deal expires.

Alonso could be the ideal replacement for the England international.

He has proven his quality at Chelsea and helped them win the Premier League.

Furthermore, he is accustomed to playing in the North-East as well. Alonso was a Sunderland player.

The 29-year-old defender has three years left on his Chelsea contract and the asking price from Chelsea seems reasonable.

Alonso is an established Premier League player who could improve Newcastle instantly.

He would certainly be a better signing than the likes of Jetro Willems and Rose.

Once the takeover goes through, Newcastle will have the money to splash out on new signings. They should be able to afford Alonso as well.

If the Magpies want to challenge for the European places, they will be proven individuals in their side.

Alonso has considerable experience of challenging for the top honours and he would be the perfect fit for them.
