Real Madrid are reportedly hatching a new 12-month plan that could see them land two of their top targets Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe has been long linked with a move to the Spanish capital club, and now he appears to be stalling the contract talks with PSG.
The French World Cup winner has a contract running until the summer of 2022, and the French giants are watchful about not letting him for free if he opts not to sign a new deal.
However, Paris Saint-Germain wants their second most expensive signing to thrive, with the club’s sporting director Leanardo looking optimistic about an extension.
As far as Haaland is concerned, Madrid could face tough competition for his signing, with many of Europe’s top clubs interested.
Borussia Dortmund aren’t interested in seeing their top goal scorer of this season leave this summer as they want him to survive at the club for one more season.
Real can prioritise the signing of Mbappe in the upcoming transfer window and wait for Haaland until the summer of 2022, when his reported release clause of £75m can be activated.
However, the plan has a shortcoming, as Haaland could force an exit this summer itself if Dortmund fails to secure Champions League qualification. Madrid can opt for the alternative in such an event – bringing Haaland this summer and waiting for Mbappe.
Following PSG’s yet another close failure in the Champions League, it remains to be seen how long they can keep hold of Mbappe.
