Augsburg 0-1 Bayern: Lewandowski’s early penalty makes the difference

Robert Lewandowski-Bayern Munich

Bavarians picked up a narrow win over Augsburg.

Bayern Munich have edged out Augsburg 1-0 away, with Robert Lewandowski scoring the only goal of the game.

The Polish striker put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot, thus racking up 22 goals so far in Bundesliga this season. He was unfortunate to hit the post once in the first half.

Bayern’s momentum withered slowly in the second half and Augsburg had a chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty. However, Alfred Finnbogason fired his shot into the post, much to Augsburg’s dismay.

The narrow win has allowed the Bavarians to sit at the top of the table, four points clear of RB Leipzig.

Both Leipzig and Leverkusen have had their chances to close the gap with Bayern in the title but dropped points at a crucial time.

Lewandowski continues his rich vein of form as his tally of 22 goals in 15 games is the record for the most number of goals scored even before it’s halfway through the season.

Elsewhere, Augsburg could have moved to the top half of the table if they were victorious today.

Bayern are seemingly struggling to create and score in numbers, with their stats over the last few games speaking volume about it.

Although the Bavarians are yet to be rivalled by the top four clubs in Bundesliga, the defending champions had to find back their old form, where they would normally dominate games.
