Schalke 1-1 Union Berlin: Paciencia helps Schalke end losing run

Goncalo Paciencia-Schalke

Schalke come from behind to earn their first point of the season.

Schalke have managed to draw their game against Union Berlin, thanks to the second half strike from Goncalo Paciencia.

The visitors, Union Berlin, stomped their authority in the game, forcing Schalke goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow to a number of saves.

However, the resistance from Ronnow was broken in the 55th minute soon after he made a vital save against Christopher Lenz.

Marvin Friedrich opened the account for Union Berlin with a brilliant header, assisted by Christopher Trimmel’s low cross.

Soon after, Schalke managed to get the equaliser from Paciencia. The Portuguese striker, who had just come off the bench, found the net similar to Union Berlin’s goal. The goal marked his first of the season while he had a good campaign at Eintracht Frankfurt last term, netting 7 goals.

The Royal Blues have managed to draw their first game after a horrendous start to the season, losing three games so far. But their winless streak for the last 20 games remains the same.

Elsewhere, Union Berlin would be disappointed for not getting away with a win as they have impressively started the season.

Schalke manager Manuel Baum would be relaxed for a bit after the draw but he knows the mountainous task ahead of him. Baum has been named as the replacement for David Wagner, whose final game was the 8-0 defeat against Bayern Munich.

Schalke’s next opponents will be Borussia Dortmund and the game will be a big test for them.
