The draw for the inaugural edition of Europa Conference League‘s knockout round play-offs took place on Monday.
16 teams – the third-placed teams of Europa League and the runners-up of Conference League – will contest in the play-offs.
Leicester City were relegated to the Conference League after the 3-2 defeat against Napoli in the final group stage game of the Europa League.
Following the elimination, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers commented that he doesn’t know what UEFA’s third-tier competition is all about.
Leicester have been drawn against Danish Club Randers in the play-offs, with the first leg to be played in February next year.
Scottish giants Celtic also ended up third in their group of UEL and they will face Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the play-offs.
Bodo/Glimt finished as runners-up in Group C of Conference League – W3 D3 and no defeats – and turned everyone’s head by beating AS Roma.
The fate of Tottenham Hotspur remains uncertain after UEFA abandoned their Conference League game against Rennes due to COVID-19 concerns.
As it stands, either Spurs or Eredivisie outfit Vitesse will face Rapid Vienna in the play-offs.
Ligue 1 outfit Marseille will face Azerbaijani club Qarabag while PSV Eindhoven have been drawn against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
