Bartomeu holds Neymar responsible for breakdown of Barcelona project

Neymar-Barcelona reunion - Would PSG allow Neymar go

Former Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has accused Neymar of sabotaging his project at the Spanish club.

The Brazilian attacker decided to leave Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017 and Barcelona have struggled to challenge for the major trophies ever since.

The Spanish club spent around 400 million euros on new signings to replace the Brazilian’s contribution to the team but they failed to find a proper replacement.

When Neymar was at the club, Barcelona had the best front three in world football and they managed to win the Champions League and the Spanish League with ease.

Messi, Suarez and Neymar had a telepathic understanding on the pitch and the trio helped Barcelona win several trophies together.

Neymar’s departure severely weakened the Barcelona attack and it is understandable why Bartomeu believes that his departure was the moment cracks started appearing in the first team.

Bartomeu resigned from his position last week and it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can rebuild there squad over the next few months. It will be interesting to see who comes in as the club’s new president.

Ever since his move to Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar has been linked with a return to Barcelona and the Brazilian did flirt with the Spanish club during the summer of 2019.

Apparently, he was keen on a return but the two clubs struggled to find an agreement.

According to Bartomeu, the drama surrounding Neymar’s future led to the breakdown of his project at the Spanish club which ultimately resulted in his departure.
