Koeman facing an uncertain future at Barcelona after Bayern defeat

Barcelona appointed Ronald Koeman as new manager

The Dutchman has been put under intense scrutiny after the defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman is reportedly facing a tentative future at the Nou Camp following the defeat against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

The Catalan club were humbled by the Bundesliga champions in Tuesday’s group stage game.

One of the most disappointing things in the defeat was Barca’s failure to manage a single shot on target.

The Catalan club’s hierarchy appears to be unhappy with the club’s direction under the Dutch manager.

According to new reports, Koeman is facing a race against time and the Blaugrana could axe him if he fails to turn things around in the coming round of fixtures.

Koeman pointed out the lack of squad depth as one of the reasons for the defeat against Bayern.

The former Netherlands national team manager said: “There were only three strikers available.

“Tactically there were moments in which we were in control. Bayern’s game is in the middle third and you have to fill [the gaps] there. It is what it is for the time being. I cannot complain about the attitude, but there is a difference in quality.

“They a team that as a group have been together for a long time and also have a bench that has improved.”

Koeman managed to win the Copa del Rey trophy in his first season in charge at the Nou Camp.

Despite heavy speculations over his exit in the summer, Barca decided to continue with Koeman for this season.

The pressure is increasing on the Dutch gaffer to deliver as Barca are showing signs of decline in recent years.

However, the odds are against Koeman as he had lost talismanic figures like Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann in the summer transfer window.

There is not much to complain about Blaugrana’s start in La Liga as they have won two out of three games so far.
