Tottenham Hotspur signed Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid at the start of last season, and the Spaniard has done a reasonably good job at the London club so far.

However, Real Madrid inserted a buy-back clause in his contract when they sold him to the Premier League club, and it appears that the Spanish La Liga giants could come calling this summer.

According to a report from ABC, the Spanish giants could trigger the clause in the left back’s contract at the end of this season as they look to replace the experienced full-back, Marcelo.

The Brazilian will be out of contract at the end of this season, and Real Madrid are looking to bring in a replacement.

The Spanish La Liga outfit have Ferland Mendy as their starting left-back right now, and Sergio Reguilon could compete with the Frenchman for a starting berth next year.

Reguilon has played at Real Madrid in the past, and he knows the club well.

The defender could settle in quickly and make an immediate impact if he returns to Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

According to the report, Real Madrid will have to pay a fee of around €40 million to bring the Spaniard back to the club, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.

The chance to join a top club like Real Madrid is a tempting proposition for most players, but Reguilon will have to remember that he struggled to get regular first-team football at the Spanish club before joining Tottenham.

It will be interesting to see if he is willing to take the plunge and return to Real Madrid this summer.
