Nice

After a disappointing start to the season, Nice fans finally got something to cheer about in midweek when they beat Lille away from home.

The hosts had failed to win any of their opening four league games of the campaign (D2, L1). But on Wednesday they came from a goal down to earn their first three points of the season in a 2-1 win over Lille.

They will now return to Allianz Riviera looking to make it tie league wins in two games for the first time since early May when they beat Troyes and Bordeaux in consecutive league games.

But with four out of their last five games against Monaco ending in a loss, they come into this tie psychologically disadvantaged on paper. But if anything, their win against Lille in midweek can serve as a springboard for them to launch a more consistent run in the season after a poor start to the campaign.

Possible Nice starting line-up

Kasper Schmeichel; Jea-Clair Todibo, Dante, Mattia Viti; Youcef Atal, Pablo Rosario, Thuram-Ulien, Aaron Ramsey, Melvin Bard; Nicolas Pepe, Andy Delort.

Injured: Kasper Dolberg, Hitcham Bouraoui

Doubtful: Sofiane Diop

Suspended: Mario Lemina

Monaco

When Monaco earned a credible draw against Paris Saint-Germain in Round Four of the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season, it was thought that their poor start to the season had ended.

But the visitors could not build on that result in Round five as they were beaten 4-2 by Troyes in midweek, taking their unbeaten start to the season to five games (D2, L3).

And so they come into this tie seating just above the relegation places in with place, a whole eight points behind Marseille who are currently occupying the third place where they finished last season.

With the UEFA Europa League starting this coming week, Monaco will have to start getting points on the board before the congested fixture list puts them under undue pressure.

They are already losing ground in the race for a top-five finish and will be desperate to get a win in this game.

Possible Monaco starting line-up

Alex Nubel; Vanderson, Axel Disasi, Malang Sarr, Caio Henrique; Mohamed Camara, Youssouf Fofana; Krepin Diatta, Takumi Minamino, Breel Embolo; Wissam Ben Yedder.

Injured: Yilan Okou, Willem Geubbels, Myron Boadu, Kevin Volland

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Guillermo Maripan

Prediction

Nice 1-1 Monaco
