The Gunners are eyeing a summer move for Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard

Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard, who starred for the Gunners on loan last season.

The Norwegian moved to Emirates Stadium on loan during the final half of last season and offered a glimpse of his potential, although the Gunners were collectively poor.

Having returned to his parent club Madrid, Odegaard is aiming to be a starter under new manager Carlo Ancelotti in the upcoming season.

However, various reports are stating that Odegaard is open to a return to North London, with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta keeping close tabs on him.

The Spanish manager is currently looking for a creative midfielder, and Leicester midfielder James Maddison is said to be on the wishlist.

The English midfielder’s expensive transfer fee coupled with Brendan Rodger’s reluctance to sell makes him a far-fetched target for the Gunners.

Elsewhere, Odegaard could be available for around £42m and is well familiar with Arteta’s tactics, making him a viable option.

Famed Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Norwegian midfielder is still a priority for the Gunners, who are waiting for Madrid’s call.

It remains to be seen whether Los Blancos would sell him this summer, given their lack of squad depth.

Earlier reports stated that players like Odegaard could be placed on the chopping block to raise funds for the long time target Kylian Mbappe.

Arsenal are looking to bounce back in the upcoming season after a dismal 2020/21 season, which saw them finish eighth in the Premier League.
