Arteta wants to build the Arsenal around Aubameyang

Arteta believes win over City could convince Aubameyang to stay

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal has been a constant topic of speculation over the last few weeks.

The striker has less than 12 months left on his current contract, and he has not signed an extension yet.

Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s best player since joining the club, and the Gunners cannot afford to lose him just yet. He is their top scorer, and he underlined his value once again last night.

He scored twice to hand the FA Cup to Arsenal as Chelsea faltered in the final.

It will be interesting to see if the Gunners can convince the player to continue at Emirates next season and beyond.

If he doesn’t sign a new deal, it could complicate matters for the London club. They will lose him for free next summer.

Aubameyang reportedly wants a pay rise and given his performances for the club so far, it is understandable. Arsenal will have to pay him what he is worth if they want him to stay.

Speaking to the media after the game, Arteta revealed that he plans to build his Arsenal team around the Gabon international.

“He knows what I think about him,” said Arteta. “I want to build the squad around him. I think he wants to stay and it is just about getting the deal done.

“But I think these moments will help him to realise and believe that we are on the right path and he is a big part of that. He is loved by everybody at the club. Hopefully, he can continue with us.”

When asked if Aubameyang will extend his time at Emirates Stadium, Arteta replied: “I think he will, yes.”
