Aston Villa 1-3 West Ham: Lingard double ensures vital away win for David Moyes

Jesse Lingard-West Ham United

West Ham picked up a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League earlier tonight.

January signing Jesse Lingard scored a fantastic second half brace to give David Moyes’ side a much needed win.

The Hammers lost out to Liverpool in their last outing and they needed to bounce back with a positive performance.

Aston Villa have been quite impressive this season and to win 3-1 away to them is a splendid result and it will give West Ham the confidence to go on a winning run now.

Tomas Soucek broke the deadlock in the second half after latching onto Said Benrahma’s through ball and finishing in the bottom corner.

The likes of Watkins and Soucek had chances to put their respective sides ahead in the first half but they failed to convert their chances.

Watkins had hit the crossbar in the first half.

Jesse Lingard doubled West Ham’s  advantage around the hour mark after receiving Antonio’s cross on his chest and he volleyed past Emiliano Martinez.

Ollie Watkins halved Aston Villa’s deficit soon after with  a well taken goal.

The on loan Manchester United attacker wiped any hope of a come back with his second of the night 7 minutes from time.

Martinez could have saved the effort and the Argentine will be disappointed to have considered the late goal.

West Ham are now up to 5th in the Premier League table with 38 points and Aston Villa are nine after tonight’s defeat.
