Chelsea agree on personal terms with Marc Cucurella, the bid submitted

Brighton defender Marc Cucurella has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Previously, the left-back was linked with a move to Manchester City, but it appears that Chelsea are now leading the chase for his services.

Cucurella was one of the best attacking left-backs in the league last year, and he could be a quality addition to the Chelsea side.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City wanted to sign the player, but Brighton turned down a £40m bid from the Premier League champions. The city do not intend to return with an improved offer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have submitted an official bid for Cucurella and youngster Levi Colwill has been included in the deal.

It remains to be seen whether Brighton are prepared to accept the offer now.

Cucurella is likely to battle it out with Ben Chilwell for the starting berth next season. Chilwell recently returned from a lengthy injury lay-off in May, and he will need time to hit his peak form.

With Marcos Alonso expected to leave this summer, Chelsea need to bring in a reliable alternative.

Romano claims that Cucurella has already accepted the proposal from Chelsea, and he is waiting for the two clubs to agree on a fee.

The Blues have signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli to improve their defensive unit, and Cucurella will improve them further once the move goes through.
