Denzel Dumfries emerges to transfer target for Manchester United despite Ten Hag offering Dalot assurances

Manchester City and United have decided - not to furlough staff

Manchester United are looking to sign Inter Milan’s right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer according to reports.

The Old Trafford side are looking to add competition to their right-back position and have identified the Netherlands international as the ideal cover for Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese international is the current first-choice right-back and was told he will have the chance to establish himself under Erik ten Hag. But according to GOAL, United consider the right-back as a position the new manager still wants to address in the transfer market this summer.

According to the report, Ten Haag sees the Inter man as the kind of player who will be able to implement his style at Old Trafford.

United’s other right-back Aaron Wan-Bisakka remains unreliable and is thought to be on the move this summer. The former Crystal Palace man fell out of favour under interim manager Ralf Rangnick last season and has struggled to develop as an attacking full-back since signing for United for £50 million ($63m) from Crystal Palace in 2019.

Dalot is considered a player that will be able to add to Ten Hag’s attack in 2022-23 after being favoured by Rangnick in the second half of last season.

The Portugal international is a transfer target of AS Roma but has been told that his current club have no intention to listen to offers this summer.

Although an exceptional bid from Jose Mourinho’s side could prompt a change of mind, the plan is to keep Dalot as part of the squad and in contention as the first-choice right-back.

With Dumfries, Manchester United are targeting a right-back that is used to playing high up the line and can contribute very well to the attacking third.

The 26-year-old Netherlands international is well-known to his Ten Haag after his time at PSV Eindhoven. He has only been at Inter for one season, but his performances have also seen him linked with Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
