Citizens cruised to an emphatic against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Manchester City steamrolled Newcastle United 4-0 in the Premier League last night, which stretched their impressive winning streak to 10 games.

Portuguese duo Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo scored in the first half before Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling added another two in the second half.

Citizens have broken several records in the process, one of which is the most number of wins in a single calendar year.

Liverpool were the previous record holder following their historic campaign in 1982, which saw them rack up 32 wins. Last night, Man City surpassed the record by registering 33 victories in 2022 with two games left.

City also beat their own record for the most goals scored in a single calendar year. After the win against the Magpies, Pep Guardiola’s side have managed to rack up 106 goals this year.

City’s win at St. James’ Park last night also marked their 18th away victory in the English top-flight this year, which is indeed a new record.

It has been a prolific year for Man City as they first lifted the Premier League title in the 2020/21 season. Despite quite a few struggles at the start of this season, Citizens have returned to their best over the last two months.

Guardiola’s side lead the league table with 44 points, three points ahead of Liverpool. The Reds could have closed the gap with the defending champions, but they failed to do so after drawing against Tottenham Hotspur last night.
