Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Villarreal defender Pau Torres in recent weeks.

According to a report from the Mirror, the newly appointed Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has made it a priority to improve his defensive options and the Villarreal star is part of the five-man shortlist the Red Devils are looking to sign.

According to the latest reports, the player’s representatives have been in talks with the Premier League club regarding a potential transfer and they have travelled to England this weekend in order to speed up the process.

The Spanish international is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in La Liga and he has the quality to succeed in the Premier League as well.

The likes of Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have been quite disappointing this past season and Manchester United will have to bring in a quality partner for Raphael Varane if they want to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Torres is an exceptional defender and his passing ability from the back will add a new dimension to Manchester United’s play.

Erik Ten Hag likes to play possession-based attacking football and he could certainly use an exceptional passer like Torres at the back.

The chance to move to the Premier League can be a tempting proposition for any player and a move to Manchester United would be a step up in the defender’s career.

Although the Premier League side have missed out on Champions League qualification, they have an exceptional squad at their disposal and the resources to get back amongst the European elite soon.
