Why Aston Villa have been unstoppable in the Premier League so far

Dean Smith-Aston Villa

Aston Villa have made a fantastic start to the Premier League season and they will be hoping to build on that and put together a winning run now.

Dean Smith’s side have won all four league games and they have conceded just twice. They’ve managed to score 12 goals in that period as well.

Last season, Aston Villa were lacking a clinical finisher upfront and they had nobody to convert the chances created by Jack Grealish. Furthermore, they were lacking pace and width in the attack as well.

The signings of Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore have addressed two major weaknesses in Aston Villa’s squad.

Traore has added pace and flair to the attack and Ollie Watkins has been the cutting edge upfront.

Furthermore, Dean Smith needed to bring in a quality long term replacement for Ahmed Elmohamady.

The Aston Villa right-back is well past his peak and they needed somebody younger with similar quality. The signing of Matty Cash has proven to be a major hit as well.

Aston Villa were also crying out for someone to share the creative burden alongside Jack Grealish and the loan signing of Ross Barkley has proven to be a wise addition so far.

Finally, Aston Villa pulled off a masterstroke in signing Emiliano Martinez to replace the injured Tom Heaton.

The former Arsenal keeper has been in splendid form since the turn of the year and he has been unbeatable in between the sticks so far this season.

Aston Villa did well to plug their weaknesses during the summer transfer window and they’re reaping the rewards of that. On top of that, Grealish seems to have stepped up and taken his game on to another level this season.

It will be interesting to see if they can continue to perform at this level and challenge for European football this season.
