The Swede has been ruled out of AC Milan’s Europa League clash against Manchester United.

AC Milan talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to miss his return to Old Trafford as he has been ruled out for the Europa League round of 16 clash against Manchester United.

The Red Devils will host Milan next week and Zlatan was due to make his return to Old Trafford in three years. However,  a thigh injury he picked up in the weekend’s game against Roma has dampened his plans.

The Rossoneri played against Roma in Serie A on Sunday and Ibrahimovic was forced off the field in the second half after suffering what later revealed to be a thigh injury. The former La Galaxy star could be possibly out of action for ten days.

Ibrahimovic represented United for around two seasons during which he was able to win the Europa League and FA Cup under Jose Mourinho.

The 39-year-old has been in brilliant form since his return to San Siro, especially this season, defying his age and racking up goals in numbers. He is also influential behind Milan’s dream run this term, which has taken a knock of late with Inter Milan leading the Scudetto race at the moment.

Ibrahimovic’s absence would be a huge blow for Stefano Pioli’s side not only for the game against Man Utd but also for Milan’s title race.

Mario Mandzukic, Rafael Leao and Ante Rebic are expected to step up in the absence of the big Swede.
