Both the players have been tested positive for COVID-19

Atletico Madrid players Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko have been tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed by the club.

The report also adds that both of them are asymptomatic and have been put under self-isolation.

However, the remainder of Atletico squad has tested negative ahead of the crucial Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.

A statement from the Rojiblancos said,

“First team players and coaching staff underwent new PCR tests on Sunday and all results have come back negative. After two first-team members tested positive on Saturday and following the health protocol, further exams were carried out on their relatives, all of which were negative.”

It also added that both Vrsaljko and Correa were asymptomatic, with the former one already recovering from a knee injury.

“The club and its medical services would like to thank the media for the respect shown to the privacy of these two players.”

Rojiblancos have included academy players Manu Sanchez, Alex Santos, Riquelme and Toni Moya to the travelling squad for the quarter-finals. They will travel to Portugal on Tuesday.

The encounter with RB Leipzig marks Atletico’s first-ever competitive game between them.

Colchoneros had previously defeated Liverpool in the round of 16, winning the tie on 4-2 aggregate.

Diego Simeone’s men have finished third in La Liga this season and are looking to push the boundaries in the Champions League title race.
