Bayern Munich picked up a 4-0 win over Benfica in the UEFA Champions League earlier tonight.

Goals from Leroy Sane, Robert Lewandowski and an own goal from Everton wrapped up a comprehensive away win for the German champions.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Leroy Sane is back to his best

The German international winger struggled to replicate his peak form since joining the German club but it seems like he is back to his best once again.

Sane scored an important brace against Benfica earlier tonight and he has now picked up three goals and three assists in three Champions League outings so far this season.

The former Manchester City winger has been devastating on the break with his flair and pace. Sane has been unplayable at times this season and Julian Nagelsmann has managed to get the best out of him so far.

Bayern Munich one step closer to the knockouts

The German giants have won all three group games so far and they are yet to concede a single goal.

Bayern Munich are five points clear at the top of Group E and another win should more or less secure their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League provided the other results go their way.

The Bavarian giants were without the services of Alphonso Davies and Leon Goretzka tonight but the injury blows hardly made a difference as they turned on the style away from home once again.

Injuries proving costly for Benfica

The Portuguese outfit were without star striker Haris Seferovic and wingback Valentino Lazaro.

Benfica struggled in the final third in their absence and they rarely threatened the Bayern Munich defence throughout the game.

The home fans would have expected a tougher fight from their players but Benfica were simply out of their depth against a team like Bayern.
