FC Porto

The two sides are no strangers to each other, with both teams having played four times in non-competitive games and once in the Champions League back in 2004, with the Portuguese giants winning 4-2 on aggregate.

Since their group stage loss to Atletico Madrid, which ultimately led to their exit from the Champions League, Porto have not tasted defeat (W15, D3). They have lost just once since the turn of the year.

In their run of 18 games, FC Porto spectacularly defeated SC Lazio 4-2 on aggregate in their Europa League knockout rounds and heading into this encounter with Lyon. The streak looks certain to continue unless the French team can put up a better fight than the Italians did.

Sergio Conceicao has been the man at the heart of all Porto have done this season and has built a formidable team since taking over the job in 2017. He has won all possible trophies since taking charge, and the possibility of adding a European trophy to his impressive resume looks possible given his team’s imperious form.

Possible FC Porto starting line-up

Diogo Costa; Joao Mario, Chancel Mbemba, Pepe, Wendell; Otavio, Vitinha, Mateus Uribe, Pepe; Mehdi Taremi, Evanilson.

Injured: Wilson Manafa

Olympique Lyonnais

Olympique Lyonnais travel to Portugal to take on runaway Portuguese league leaders FC Porto as they continue their quest to add a European trophy to their trophy cabinet, having won all possible trophies in France.

Peter Bosz’s team enter this encounter off the back of an impressive 4-1 win over Lorient in the French league and will be full of high spirits and morale as they go toe to toe against the Portuguese Giants.

The win against Lorient was their second in consecutive games and it leaves them in ninth position five points off Rennes in the fourth position.

Heading into this game, Peter Bosz knows he will have to help his team and come up with a strategy to stifle the Portuguese team’s attacking threats. Their hosts have plundered in 63 goals in the league and only Bayern Munich, Man City, Liverpool and Dortmund only bettered their record across Europe’s top five leagues.

Possible Lyon starting line-up

Anthony Lopes; Malo Gusto, Thiago Mendes, Castello Lukeba, Emerson Palmieri; Maxence Caqueret, Houssem Aouar; Romain Faivre, Lucas Paqueta, Karl Toko Ekambi; Moussa Dembele..

Injured: Tanguy Ndombele, Leo Dubois, Sinaly Diomande, Mathis Cherki
