England

After recording their best-ever result in a World Cup opener and their second-biggest all-time World Cup win, England will look to seal qualification to the next round of the World Cup when they face USAA on Friday.

The Three Lions enjoyed a memorable outing on Monday as they trashed Iran6-2 courtesy of goals from Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish. Mehdi Taremi scored twice for Iran, but his goals only served as consolation.

But after a game which remarkably saw almost half an hour of injury time, manager Gareth Southgate was not entirely satisfied, saying, “It’s a great start, but we’re going to have to be better,” after they conceded two late goals.

Conceding after the hour-mark in matches has been a theme recently for Gareth Southgate’s side, as they’ve done so in each of their last four games (W1, D1, L2). But Southgate will now want his side to maintain their focus against the USA as they bid to make it six H2Hs unbeaten (W4, D1). Though there’s no room for complacency, they’ll be well aware that the sole H2H draw during that run came at the 2010 World Cup.

Possible England starting line-up

Jordan Pickford; Kieran Trippier, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Like Shaw; Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Phil Foden; Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka.

Injured: None

Doubtful: Harry Kane

Suspended: None

USA

Despite a disappointing result last time, the USA gave a good account of themselves against Wales in their first group game of the campaign.

Gregg Berhalter’s side enjoyed most of the possession in the first half and took the lead against Wales through Timothy Weah. But a poor second-half showing allowed Wales back in the game before a late penalty by Gareth Bale levelled the scores.

The Americans will hope to do better Thais time as they attempt to keep a clean sheet here after failing to keep a clean sheet in the World Cup against a European nation.

Manager Gregg Berhalter who said after the World CUP that his side had “left everything out there” and “kept going right until the end”, will be hoping for another energetic display from his boys.

Possible USA starting line-up

Matt Turner; Sergino Dest, Walker Zimmerman, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson; Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah; Brenden Aaronson, Jesús Ferreira, Christian Pulisic.

Injured: None

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
