Memphis Depay confident of sealing Barcelona move in January

Borussia Dortmund identify Lyon's Memphis Depay as Jadon Sancho alternative

The Dutch forward has been closely linked with a move to FC Barcelona.

Memphis Depay will do everything to join Barcelona in January, reveals Lyon president Aulas.

Depay came close to joining the Catalans on the deadline day of the transfer window before the move fell through.

However, Jean-Michel Aulas has said that the Dutch forward will try his best to move to the Nou Camp in the winter transfer window.

“Since the beginning, I have been clear with Memphis. I spoke with President Bartomeu at Barcelona twice, he told me he couldn’t see how things could happen. I know that Koeman made him continue to hope and that Memphis was ready to make sacrifices.

“Today, he is disappointed, but not towards Lyon, more towards Barcelona. He is going to do everything he can to find himself in a position where he moves there in January.”

Aulas also added that it would be difficult to extend Depay’s contract at Lyon while he is inclined towards joining Barca.

Depay himself spoke about his failed attempt to move to Barca, stating that it was pretty close.

Ronald Koeman, the pivotal figure behind Barca’s pursuit in Depay, also made it clear his former protégé wants to join the Catalans.

The Blaugrana looked optimistic on signing the 26-year-old on the day, but they relied on the departure of Ousmane Dembele. With Dembele opting to stay put at the Nou Camp – as Manchester United were interested only in a loan move –, Depay’s arrival fell through in the end.
